After a combined 20 years working in the construction industry as both a qualified Carpenter and Registered Plumber, Jimmy completed a VBA endorsed course in Swimming Pool and Spa Inspections and started his own business Pool Safe Regional Victoria.
As a Ballarat local Jimmy has spent many years running commercial job sites and managing various trades. Now he turns his skills to the compliance industry working with private pools and spas in homes, caravan parks and hotels. With years experience in the building and compliance industry Jimmy will ensure clients get the best advice to keep their pool and spa barriers compliant.
As a father of two young kids, Jimmy recognises how important keeping kids safe around water is. Accidents in and around pools do happen and the majority of these have been found to be preventable. While there is some work to be done to ensure barriers are compliant, in years to come the outcome will be safer pools for everyone to enjoy.

Pool & spa owners need to know…
New laws to improve swimming pool and spa safety came into effect in Victoria on December 1st 2019. It is now mandatory for owners of land where a swimming pool or spa is located to register their pool or spa with the relevant council.
Owners are also required to have their safety barriers inspected and to lodge a certificate of barrier compliance with their council. If a safety barrier is not compliant, it is the owner’s responsibility to make the barrier compliant.
Pool Safe Regional Victoria can inspect and issue certificates of barrier compliance for pools and spas that meet the standards in Victoria. These certificates are then lodged by the owner to the local council.
-
Register Your Pool
Register your pool with your relevant Council. You will need to know when your pool barrier was installed.
Your Council will provide you with a registration letter, including the standard your pool barrier must adhere to.
-
Self Checklist
Read the Self Assessment Checklists and make any adjustments necessary to bring your pool barrier into compliance with the relevant standard. (Your Council will tell you which standard you need to comply with). Pool Safe can help determine which checklist you should use.
-
Book Your Inspection
Book your VBA accredited pool inspector through Pool Safe to audit & issue a compliance certificate if the barrier meets the standard.
If your pool does not comply you may have up to 60 days to bring it to compliance.
-
Lodge Your Certificate
Your certificate will be given to you within 48 hours of the inspection. You will need to send this to your relevant council.
-
See you in 4 years!
Your council will notify you of the date of your next inspection, which will be every four years. We hope to see you again then!
